The New York Rangers are down 3 games to 0 and they are due to win a game especially at the Garden. Online sportsbook oddsmakers currently have the Penguins listed as a -115 moneyline road favorites with the games Over/Under total sitting at 5.5. New York is too good a team not to get swept and they will certainly not want to lose at home.
I just don’t really see the Pens winning 8 straight playoff games in a row. With Sean Avery out of the lineup this will actually be better for NY as they will be able to concentrate on hockey instead of on ice antics. Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka still have it in them to win a game and with Brendan Shanahan and a number of other veterans the Rangers have the ability and skill to win at home.
Despite the dominance by the Pittsburgh in the playoffs there are some NHL betting trends that favor the Ranger tonight at MSG. New York are 8-3 in their last 11 home games versus a team with a winning road record and are 5-2 in their last 7 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. Also the Rangers are 35-16 in their last 51 Thursday games.
At most sports betting NHL sites the Rangers are a home favorite and Henrik Lundqvist is a much better goalie than his 2.87 GAA and his .894 save percentage. Also Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury is not as good as his 1.72 GAA and .940 save percentage. New York went 5-3 against the Penguins this year and the Blueshirts allowed Pittsburgh to score more than three goals against them just once during the regular season.
Bottom Line: The Rangers had a solid 25-13-3 record at the Garden this season and will not go away lightly in this NHL playoff betting series. Head to head the home team is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings and the Penguins are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in New York.
