Apr 18, 2008 | By Scott Burgess | Picks Articles Archive

Out with the old and in with the new, that’s what the Detroit Red Wings are thinking. Goalie Dominik Hasek is out, and in comes the regular season superstar Chris Osgood. The Red Wings have home ice advantage tonight when they host the Nashville Predators in Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarter Finals. The series is tied at two games apiece. BetUS.com has the Red Wings as 1.60 favorites over Nashville with the over/under set at 5 goals. Get your NHL Playoff Betting in now at BetUS.com where players play!

GAME: Nashville Predators (43-34-4-5) at Detroit Red Wings (56-23-2-5)

PICK: Detroit -270

Hasek was benched after giving up three goals on 14 shots Wednesday night in a 3-2 loss at Nashville. Osgood had 13 saves in relief. Osgood finished the season with 29 wins and he had the best goals-against average in the NHL with a 2.09 GAA. He did great for the Wings all year and then they let Hasek start just because of his playoff stats. Now they need him to bail them out. One good thing for the Wings is that tonight’s game is on home ice, where they are . Pavel Datsyuk leads with three goals while Kris Draper and Henrik Zetterberg each have two goals.

If the Preds want to advance into the second round, for the first time in four tries, they need to start winning on the road, where they are 0-9 SU in the playoffs. One hot thing going for them is the outstanding goaltending from Dan Ellies who stopped 144 shots in four combined games for a 2.78 GAA. He is taking major fire power from the Wings who led the league in shots on goal. Jordon Tootoo and Alexander Radulov each have a pair of goals and Jason Arnott finally got a goal last game.

Recent Trends to Consider

  • Predators are 2-8 in their last 10 playoff games as an underdog.
  • Predators are 1-4 in their last 5 road games.
  • Predators are 0-4 in their last 4 games as a road underdog
  • Favorite is 15-7 in the last 22 meetings.
  • Home team is 39-19-4 in the last 62 meetings.
  • Predators are 5-11 in the last 16 meetings.
  • Predators are 6-26-2 in the last 34 meetings in Detroit.

The Bottom Line: The Wings were much better with Osgood in net. If their offense and defense feel comfortable without having to worry about their goalie, they can put all their focus into offense. Get your NHL Playoff Betting in now at BetUS.com where players play!
