The Canucks' struggles against the Avs this season are just one reason why Vancouver has yet to clinch its sixth playoff berth in seven seasons. They are in eighth place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Nashville and two in front of Edmonton. The remaining three games for the Canucks are all at home, where they are 4-1 SU in their last five at home. In those games they’ve averaged 4.00 GAG. Goalie Roberto Luongo has a 1.80 GAA during these five homes games. Their power play desperately needs to start scoring and they need to stop taking stupid penalties. They’ve given up seven goals in five games or 26 kills. The Canucks hope an offensive outburst from their last game will carry over to this one after they scored five unanswered goals, two from 19-year veteran Trevor Linden
The Avs have 91pts, three more than Vancouver. The Avs, though, had their three-game winning streak halted Sunday with a 3-2 loss to Minnesota when Jose Theodore was beaten by Marian Gaborik 3:10 into overtime. They’ve won five of their last ten and they are 1-4 SU in their last five road games.
They averaged 2.80 GAG during this time and goalie Jose Theodore has a 3.40 GAA. Their defense on the penalty kill has only given up two goals in five games. Colorado played without Peter Forsberg, who was scratched with a groin injury and is day-to-day. Colorado is 6-1-0 with Forsberg in the lineup. He's got nine assists, but has yet to score a goal.
Recent Trends
The Bottom Line: Despite losing five straight to the Avs, the Canucks are comfortable at home and they are just coming off a scoring blitz against Calgary. They feel pumped!
