Predictions: Montreal Canadians

Aug 09, 2008 | By Jordana Kalenchuk | Articles Articles Archive

The fans of the Montreal Canadians usually have their panties and underwear in knots since the franchise has a lot to live up to. Unlike their failures of an enemy, the Maple Leafs, the Canadians have a legacy of many cups and good battles behind them and hopefully in front of them.

After their disappointing loss in the play off’s round 2 against the cheap tricks of the Philly Flyers, the Montreal Canadians have some explaining to do this season. Ya, they were first overall during the season, but nobody cares if you are 1st or 8th seated, if you make the play offs, that’s where the real battle begins and the true showing of your team’s colours. I feel bad because the media and fans put a lot of the blame on newcomer, Carey Price (who is 20, ya, exactly) That is a lot of pressure for one kid living in a hockey town. This isn’t the 50’s and are people even built like “The Rocket” anymore? Can we put all of our faith into one person???

Well, this franchise is sure pumping up the arrival of George Laraque. And sure maybe he can fight like “The Rocket” but he can’t score like him, sorry George. But you know that, right? You’re usually put on the 4th line (or the “energy line” is the term they use to make you feel a little more special) But um, hmm… Saku Koivu is 100 percent, no? He’s a straight up guy. And maybe the reason I can tolerate this team. His leadership and passion for the game are truly inspirational.

I think if they play like they did last year, and they did get a few good trades, like Alex Tanquay from the Flames and an addition from Russia, which is always nice, I think this Habs team is looking alright for the 08-09 season. Maybe not number 1 (cause that will be Pittsburgh) but top 5, for sure. Hopefully Price won’t be holding his stick for dear life (you are already a child prodigy, Carey, you are. High five) but since this is now a game of goalie vs goalie, (I really think the league has gotta ease off on the goalies’ padding. How do you move in that? And I think a higher scoring game might be what this game needs) did anyone find last year’s season a bit boring??? At any rate, should be a good year for the Habs, at least they should be able to win every game against the Leafs (which is pretty much almost as good as winning the cup) and enter the playoffs at full speed. Maybe even make it to round 3 if the team doesn’t poop the bed again from too much pressure.
