Hockey, Summer addition

Besides the time off, and the leisurely golf, the players who play 8 months in Edmonton, get a break from that town for a couple of months, the hockey wives have 3 months worry free (and 3 months to trap their husbands for good) – I mean baby making (which is a beautiful thing) and the guys get to work on their skill without commentators commenting out their ass. So…

Summertime is good. Except for us fans. But at the same time, we too need a break. Otherwise, we would begin to resent hockey, like a bad boyfriend or girlfriend that we just spent way too much time with, get drunk with, and ultimately end up feeling lonely inside.

But for all you people out there who started to pick up a couple of issues of Vogue as of late, think that the draft picks this summer are of some value, and your day just got a bit better when you found out that Kelly Buchberger was just added to the Oiler’s coaching staff and you called in sick when you heard Vinny Lacavalier was to sign a 9 year $77 million deal, and the fact that you are losing sleep because Mats Sundin might begin to “talk” with the Montreal Canadians, then this buds for you.

‘Cause Summer is a time to rebuild the team. Heck, Vancouver has been rebuilding since ’94. This takes time people. Toronto has a been rebuilding since, well, since their first ever game, but slow and steady wins the race, you know. So as teams like the Sharks pencil in Jeremy Roenick, Brian Boucher and Joe Pavelski for a couple more years and the Leafs put a choke hold on their one good player, Darcy Tucker, there are a few pending agents like Campbell, Redin, Hossa and Sundin who are possibly looking for a new home.

And as the draft picks came and went and Detroit (usually having last pick) will still find a way to be on top and Toronto and LA kings will still find a way to lose, and since the July 2nd lock down is nearing, we will have our teams and able to pick which guys will be in our hockey pools and backyard pools… I’m counting on you Canucks.
