Whether or not they get this GM or that coach or this player or that goalie, Toronto will never be a top 5 team. Why?

Because they don’t need to be.

The players know this going in to the Season. And the new players get into retirement mode when traded to Toronto.

And...

Their fans will always have their back. They will get tanked and watch the game and go crazy and spend lots of money to have a washed up player’s name on their over priced jersey and still be surprised why their team never made it into the playoffs and curse the Leafs all summer, but Mike Myers will make a movie about them and then you go, “Oh, the Leafs are so cute. I love them. They are Canada.”

And then everyone will talk all summer about how to make this team better. (Hmm..I guess being the centre of the Universe doesn’t even have the kind of gravitational pull this team needs to be a contender of any kind.) And the only one throwing any punches these days is Darcy Tucker, of coarse, but, so what. Punches aren’t goals. Or saves. And I bet Matts is tired of passing to himself and receiving from himself.

All in all, I don’t think this team needs a make over, it needs plastic surgery. Or Ty Pennington to come over with a bulldozer and completely rebuild.

So, until Ty shows up, stop talking about how small changes are going to help. They aren’t. They didn’t last year or the year before that or they year before that. Because the shifts these players take, are the graveyard shifts.
