1) Patrick Kane
Kane was the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and so far he has lived up to his potential. Kane leads all NHL rookies with points and if he keeps this pace, he might have a chance to break the 100 point make which has been only been done by a 6 other rookies.
2) Nicklas Bäckström
Nicklas Bäckström has a very mature sense about the way he plays. He has been the biggest surprise this year. He starts on a line with Alex Ovechkin and has the ability to make Ovechkin better. Throughout the season he has been able to find Ovechkin with pin point passing.
3) Jonathan Toews
Toews was selected by the Blackhawks with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and sits third in NHL rookie scoring. He is making a big impact to the Hawks squad alongside fellow rookie Patrick Kane. Toews actually has more upside to be a better NHL star in the future but not at this time.
4) Peter Mueller
Mueller has come out of no where and is thriving under Wayne Gretzky’s coaching and the Coyotes system. He currently sits third in NHL rookie scoring with 40 points and is given the ice time and coaching development as a player. Mueller is one of the brightest stars in US hockey right now.
5) Sam Gagner
Gagner has the hockey linage to be a great NHL player as his dad Dave played in the NHL with 719 points in 946 NHL games. Sam has more upside than his dad as he has more skill and speed than his old man. Gagner is part of a young Edmonton Oilers line up alongside Andrew Cogliano and Tom Gilbert
